SAMPLE RECIPES
CIVIL WAR HOE CAKE
Ingredients
1 cup cornmeal
½ teaspoon salt
1 ½ tablespoons oil
1cup boiling water
Butter or jam.
Steps
- Put cornmeal and salt in a medium bowl. Stir together.
- Add the oil and half of the water. Stir well.
- Add the rest of the water. Work it in with your hands.
- Grease a cookie sheet.
- Divide the dough into thirds and shape it into 3 round, flat shapes
on the cookie sheet.
- Bake in a 375 degree oven for about 30 minutes or until browned.
- Serve warm with butter or jam.
Serves 4.
APPLEADE
Ingredients
2 large apples
1 quart water
Sugar (to taste)
Steps
- Core and cut apples into slices. Do not peel. Place in a pan.
- Boil the water.
- Pour boiling water over apple slices.
- Let mixture sit for 30minutes.
- Strain well.
- Sweeten to taste with sugar.
- Chill.
Serves 6.
