| THE ADVENTURE OF THE THREE BEARS |
In this turnabout story, three bears invade Goldilocks' house while
she's on a walk with her family. The bears ruin the blueberry muffins
and eat all the honey. Baby Bear breaks Goldilocks' rocking chair.
Finally, the bears fall asleep in the beds. When the family discovers
the intruders, they run away. The bears never trespass again, and Goldilocks'
family learns to lock their doors. RL1-001.

| THE ANIMALS FIND PEACE |
A farmer tires of the animals stealing his food. He decides to dig
a pit to capture them. But he falls in and dies. Ermine decides to
drag him away after taking a bite of him. He meets Squirrel, Hare,
Fox, Wolf, and Bear along the way. He invites each animal to take a
bite and help him drag the farmer away. Soon the farmer is gone and
the bigger animals decide to eat the smaller ones. Squirrel, Ermine,
and Hare escape, leaving Fox to suggest they live in peace. RL1-002.

| CLEVER SPIDER |
A woman decides it's time for her daughter to marry. Her daughter
insists she needs ten plates and dishes before she can marry. The woman
trades her cow to the spider that has promised to provide the dishes
and plates in time for the wedding. This leads to a series of trades,
with the trade finally fulfilled. For a writing extension, consider
adding more characters to the story. RL1-003.

| THE GHOST WITH THE BLOODY FINGERS |
A ghost with bloody fingers inhabits a room in a hotel, scaring away
any guests who dare to stay there. Finally, a guitar-playing young
man defies the ghost, giving it an amusing and straightforward solution
to its bloody fingers. This is an adaptation of an American ghost story.

| PETS ON PARADE |
Mrs. Tate's class is talking about pets. Ann brings in pictures of
her aunt's show dog, Sir Albert Bernard O'Riley. The students learn
about the life of a show dog and compare Sir O'Riley's life to their
dogs' lives. The class concludes their study by having a classroom

| THE TURNIP |
In this adaptation of a Russian folktale, Grandfather tries to pull
out a big turnip in his garden. When he can't pull it out, he gets
help from Grandmother. She in turns gets help, and more characters
enter the story as they try to help remove the turnip. Finally, it
is the little flea that provides the last bit of needed help. Although
the readability varies from grades 1 through 3, the repetition makes
this easy and fun for all grades. RL1-006
